DAVID E. DOUGLAS

Professor

I was Department Chair from 1985 to 1998. Faculty members have to engage in the scholarship of teaching, research and service. For me, teaching is the most enjoyable part of being a faculty member. Although content is very important in the rapidly changing field of information technology, critical thinking and learning to learn are the two most important outcomes students can take from classes I teach.

My research interests include pedagogy for distance education, e-commerce, and the area of database management systems/data warehousing/data mining. Of particular interest in the database management area is object databases.

I was President of the Decision Sciences Institute--Southwest Region for 1996-1997. I am the Associate Program Chair for the Decision Sciences Institute for the 1999 national meeting, and Secretary/Treasurer for the Southwest Federation of Administration Disciplines  Committees at the University of Arkansas of which I serve include the Graduate Council, Faculty Senate, and Graduate Council. I am also the Alternate Faculty Athletics Representative.
